Obit: Mary Wilensky (d. 1958)

Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Wilensky, eight-six, a Russian immigrant who raised four daughters who became professional women in Toronto and the United States, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Park Memorial chapel, Spadina Avenue. Interment will be in Roselawn cemetery. Mrs. Wilensky died of a heart attack last night.

Mrs. WIlensky was the mother-in-law of Joseph Salsberg, former Labour-Progressive MPP for Toronto-St. Andrew from 1943 to 1955. She was honourary president of the ladies’ auxiliary of Berkeley Street synagogue and took a keen interest in all social and charitable organizations.

She came to Toronto from Russia at the turn of the century and lived most of her life in the east end. For the past fifteen years she lived on Madison Avenue.

She was the mother of Dora Wilensky, director of the Jewish family and child service; of two prominent U.S. social workers, Mrs. Jenny Goldberg of New York and Mrs. Faygel Liderman of San Francisco; and of the late Dr. Bertha Wilensky. ♦
