(A) PREWAR TORONTO – $150

Immigrants Mid-Ocean 1906

If your family arrived in Toronto (or anywhere in Ontario) between 1880 and the 1930s, this is your option. Includes a basic search of:

  • available birth, marriage and death records;
  • naturalization records;
  • census records (to 1911);
  • passenger arrival records;
  • major newspapers;
  • cemetery records;
  • tombstone photo (if time permits) and
  • various other general and Jewish sources.

 (B) POSTWAR CANADA – $150

For families that arrived in Canada during or after the Second World War. This option includes a basic search of:

  • passenger arrival records;
  • major newspapers (if available);
  • Holocaust records at Yad Vashem and other repositories;
  • Yizkor book (Holocaust Remembrance Book) searches if applicable;
  • cemetery records;
  • tombstone photo (if time permits) and
  • various other general and Jewish sources.

Bill Gladstone is a former president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Canada (Toronto) and book review editor of Avotaynu, the international journal of Jewish genealogy. His book on his large Toronto-based family, “One Hundred Years in Canada: the Rubinoff-Naftolin Family Tree,” came out in 2008, and his book, “Roots and Remembrance: Explorations in Jewish Genealogy” was published by the Ontario Genealogical Society in 2006. He has published an earlier work on his paternal grandmother’s Alexander family tree, as well as the recent “A History of the Jewish Community of London Ontario.” He gives frequent workshops on Jewish genealogy for the Ontario Jewish Archives and private groups.
