Note: This special notice appeared in the Judische Familien Forschung in 1936, issue 41, as conditions were worsening for Jews in Germany and many were planning to leave.
ON THE RESCUE OF JEWISH CULTURAL ASSETS
The current circumstances require the dissolution of numerous households especially, but not exclusively, those of emigrants. On this occasion only, according to experience, a relatively small part of movable property will be taken along or used.
A great deal of apparent worthless material is being destroyed. In truth, among the ballast which is being destroyed, there are important Jewish cultural assets, especially old manuscripts, letters and pictures.
The “Division for Autographs and Portraits” of the National and University Library in Jerusalem (Collection Schwadron) systematically collects manuscripts and autographical documents (letters, notes, articles etc) and graphic portraits (lithographic prints, photogravures, engravings etc.) of prominent personalities of Jewish ancestry within and without Judaism.
Every reader of this appeal, who believes that he is in possession of appropriate material is being asked to send it directly to Mr. Abraham Schwadron, Hebrew University , Jerusalem, or to the Collection Centre for the Hebrew National and University Library, Berlin , Meineke Strasse 10.
A general publication of this request is urgently required among all circles of your acquaintance. ♦
